Numeracy
This course is new and the first certificate will will be awarded in 2018. In the words of the exam board:
'It will have an emphasis on those aspects of mathematics which are of most relevance to learners functioning as informed twenty-first century citizens. It will prepare learners to make decisions about further learning opportunities and career choices. Solving problems in the real world and the problem-solving cycle will feature within the specification as well as the more numerical aspects of mathematics. There will also be opportunities for learners to make informed decisions about the use of technology, the management of money and the use of statistics.'
Essentially the Numeracy course will give students a GCSE grade in the application of maths in situations more relevant to everyday life and employment.
Good or bad, this grade will show on final certificates and in the future it is foreseable that many employers will value this qualification more than the traditional mathematics qualification.
This exam is usually taken in year 10 but schools may offer opportunities in year 11. Whichever category you are in you are welcome to join us.
This workshop will run 9am - 4pm. Divided into 3 sessions or 2 hours with 2 breaks. Each session will be delivered by a teacher specialising in that particular area of the course. The sessions will be catered to the exact needs of the small group. Whether you are resisting for that illusive grade C or aiming for an A* you are sure to benefit from this workshop.
