Mathematics
This is the more traditional mathematics course - although it will still be largely application based.
The exam board says:
'It will enable learners to appreciate the coherence, creativity, elegance and power of mathematics. It will prepare learners to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities and career choices. It will have an emphasis on those aspects of mathematics required for progression into mathematics or mathematically-related disciplines or employment routes.'
Essentially this qualification demonstrates an ability to use mathematics and provide a foundation for those going on to study maths at A-level. If you want to be considered for medicine and veterinarian courses you really need an A* hear if possible. On the other hand, most engineering and electrical apprenticeships will require at least a grade C.
Most will sit this in year 11. Many students will have had an attempt at the exam. This is your final chance to boost that grade up to an A* or to secure that all important grade C.
